Root canal therapy procedure

To start the therapy the dentist will do an x-ray so that he or she can see the root canal shape and if there are any indications of toxicity in the surrounding bone. Second, a rubber dam will be placed around the tooth that will be worked on to keep it dry from saliva. Third, a hole will be put in the tooth so that the dentist can remove the pulp, bacteria, and any debris which will be flushed away with either water or sodium hypochlorite. The tooth will then be root canal will be filled unless the dentist thinks there may be infection still present.
Fourth, at this appointment, the tooth itself will be filled. Finally, a crown is placed on the tooth to help strengthen and protect the tooth. During the time of the root canal filling and the crown is placed you will need to be careful of chewing in the area of that tooth.
